We are a team of lawyers, engineers, and free thinkers who think the patent industry needs fixing. A $180 billion a year worldwide business, patent licensing and monetization revenues are going to less than 5% of patent holders. Of this, $30 billion is going directly to non-operating companies, most of which fit well within the narrowest definition of “patent troll”. While patents are a necessary part of wealth creation in our innovation economy, we are experiencing a major market failure in terms of access and efficiency. Without a transparent marketplace, the benefits of this system are heavily negated by unscrupulous business practices. Unfortunately, most patent holders don’t have a better option. This is where ClearAccessIP aims to make a difference. ClearAccessIP believes patent transactions can evolve to meet the various needs of operating companies today. We want to eliminate the transaction costs associated with inefficient brokerages, and even seek to cut the lifeline fueling patent troll behavior.
