Classics for All supports schools to introduce and sustain Classics – Ancient History, Classical Civilisation, Classical Greek and Latin – in UK state schools, many in areas of high socio-economic deprivation. We offer training and support to both primary and secondary schools and FE colleges, to help them bring this enriching subject to more children and young people. Since 2010, Classics for All has established a national reputation, raising funds from individual donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate sponsors. These funds have allowed Classics for All to reach more than 1,300 schools, train 6,000 teachers, and benefit more than 200,000 pupils. Classics for All works through regional classics networks to target schools in areas of low social mobility. This ensures that pupils in schools with no tradition of Classics benefit from the programme. Classics education builds social capital, widens horizons and raises aspirations. Learning a language such as Latin or Classical Greek develops literacy, expands vocabulary and acts as a foundation for future language learning, in addition to unlocking the secrets of the ancient world.
