Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to ‘Nourish our Country’. Our mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect our planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society. The impact of our work is strongly aligned to achieving five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
OzHarvest is best known for our iconic yellow food rescue vans which save over 250 tonnes of good food every week and deliver it direct to charities that feed people in need. We’re also creating positive change through three national education programs (FEAST, NEST and Nourish), and through our advocacy work raising awareness about food security and doing whatever we can to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030.
Innovation is part of our DNA and we’re always looking to add value to what we do and find new ways to tackle food waste and feed hungry people. We’re pioneering social impact projects from free supermarkets (OzHarvest Market) and a restaurant (Refettorio OzHarvest) that feeds people in need and creating revenue generating products via OzHarvest Ventures. Our unique for-impact, food rescue model has been implemented across the globe in New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Vietnam and Japan.
Every $1 donated allows OzHarvest to deliver 2 meals to people in need.
Whether it’s everyday emergencies or in times of crisis, Foodbank Victoria has been providing vital food relief to vulnerable Victorians for 95 years. We deliver food to people who need it in three different ways: in partnership with our charity partners, through schools and via our regional Community Food Centres.
Across our network of 500 charity partners and 1,015 schools throughout Victoria, we have distributed over 25 million meals in the last 12 months and are currently feeding 69,000 Victorians a day. While supporting our charity and school partners is at the core of what we do, as the state’s dedicated emergency food relief organisation, we’re also here to assist Victorians through natural disasters, pandemics and the ‘invisible disaster’ caused by the ongoing cost of living crisis.
We believe that all Victorians should have regular access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. That’s why we work with partners right across the food and grocery sector, from farmers and growers right through to retailers, to source, rescue and purchase essential food and grocery items to distribute to our communities.
Our food purchasing program is rapidly expanding to help us feed the growing number of people who need our support - we are now spending $5 million on food every year.
For every $1 we receive, we’re able to provide 2 meals for someone in need. Every dollar donated is two meals created. It’s that simple.
