Karen Luttik (an 'American clarinettist') graduated in 1984 from Manhattan School of Music, New York City. She studied with Charles Russo, Principle clarinet with the New York City Opera Orchestra. After gaining valuable orchestral experience at the Spoletto and Waterloo Festivals, she moved on to Europe. There she studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, with Piet Honig, and at the Sweelink Conservatory in Amsterdam with George Pieterson, then both clarinettists with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Karen (an ‘Asian’ clarinettist) was Solo Clarinet for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, performing in that nation’s weekly concerts and their European tour. Conductors have included Okko Kamu, Helsinki Philharmonic; Charles Ansbacher, Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra; Helgi Tomasson, San Francisco Ballet; Shalom Ronly Riklis, Israel Philharmonic; Martin Turnovsky, Bonn Opera; and Karel Husa, a Czech guest conductor. Karen (a ‘European’ clarinettist) has been performing actively in the Netherlands for the past five years with Trio Aleotti (clarinet, cello and piano), the Kurios Clarinet Quartet (the first Christian Clarinet Quartet in the Netherlands) and Musicaleren (an innovative learning laboratory using chamber music)
