The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) is a global membership organization dedicated to advancing the democratic purposes of higher education by promoting equity, innovation, and excellence in liberal education. The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is an association of more than 700 nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils of independent colleges, and other higher education affiliates, that works to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of independent higher education’s contributions to society. CIC offers conferences, seminars, publications, and other programs and services that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility. Founded in 1956, CIC conducts the largest annual conferences of college and university presidents and of chief academic officers in the United States.
EUA is a community of over 900 members and affiliates. It represents universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries, as well as affiliated organisations and networks based both in and beyond Europe. EUA supports and takes forward the interests of individual institutions and the higher education sector as a whole.
EUA plays a crucial role in the European Higher education Area (Bologna Process) and in influencing EU policies on higher education, research and innovation. Thanks to its interaction with a range of other European and international organisations EUA ensures that the independent voice of European universities is heard, wherever decisions are being taken that will impact on their activities.
