Since 1970, the Perry Foundation has either funded or part funded approximately 250 projects at most major UK agricultural research institutions. These cover the full range of agricultural and horticultural enterprises with the guiding principles that they should all have the potential to enhance the profitability of UK farming and add to the scientific base of the industry. Many of the UK's leading scientists have benefited from working with the Foundation. Take the case of Leon Terry, now Professor of Plant Sciences at Cranfield University. Leon first approached the Foundation after completing a Masters degree at Silsoe and self funding the first year of a Ph D project on Botrytis control in strawberries. After the usual checks, it was clear that he met the twin aims of the foundation of the applicant having a commitment to UK agriculture and working on a crop and project that could enhance the profitability of many UK farms. Strawberry production is one of the success stories of UK horticulture. Funding was then established for the final two years of the work.

The British Association for Japanese Studies is an association of scholars and researchers dedicated to researching and teaching about Japan, through publication, the organisation of conferences, and the provision of funding to support the research and study of Japan. New members are always welcome and will join a thriving and friendly community with a diverse range of interests, but all united in seeking to expand the frontiers of knowledge about Japan and the Japanese.
