Château Carignan is located 10km to the east of Bordeaux in the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux AOC. The dominant grape variety is Merlot, which is in its element on the clayey limestone hillsides and offers supple, well-rounded wines. Perched on the banks of the Garonne River, the Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux enjoy a temperate climate, which plays an essential role in the cultivation of the vines. Although labor in the vineyards is considerably more difficult on sloping terrain, and although the yields are generally lower, the grapes benefit substantially from this increased exposure, resulting in greater concentration and complexity. The result: wines which are pleasant and fresh; wines which can be enjoyed young, with aromas of ripe fruits and with lovely, velvety tannins. 30% of the vineyard is over 40 years old and 70% between 8 and 25 years old. The grape varieties planted are 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes for the Château Carignan wines are hand harvested, machine harvesting is used for the other wines. Sorting tables and a private winery with small heat controlled tanks ensure full control of parcel selection for wine making. Maturing is in 100% new oak casks for the Château Carignan Prima and in one or maximum two wine casks for the Château Carignan. The entire production is estate bottled.
