Formerly known as Homeless Services Center, Housing Matters is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the largest local organization addressing homelessness in Santa Cruz County. Our mission is to partner with individuals and families to create pathways out of homelessness into permanent housing. Donor contributions support our emergency shelter programs (including housing navigation and placement), personalized case management, day services with showers and bathrooms open to the public, on-site supportive services, and the construction of permanent supportive housing—now underway—for our unhoused neighbors most in need. The mission of SSPADS is to prevent and end homelessness. Key characteristics of SSPADS’ programs are interfaith partnerships, hospitality, compassion, service and dignity. To meet the challenges that cause, contribute to and exacerbate homelessness requires sustained support over time and individual or family concerns are addressed as interrelated social issues. To effectively tackle complex challenges such as poverty and homeless requires delivering quality and effective programs and services across multiple categories.

DC Doors operates Zoe's Drop-in Center, the District of Columbia's only 24/7 drop-in center for youth ages 18 - 24. This center serves as a vital lifeline for young people facing homelessness, housing instability, or those seeking a safe place to go. At Zoe's Drop-In Center, we welcome survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, individuals abandoned due to mental illness, and others in need of support with dignity and compassion. We believe that every young person deserves safety, respect, and the opportunity to rebuild their future, no matter their background or the challenges they’ve encountered. We provide essential youth support services such as safety, warm meals, case management, and access to permanent supportive housing, creating genuine pathways to stability for the dozens of youth who enter our doors each day. By offering consistent support and safe temporary shelter, we help keep youth off the streets and connected to positive opportunities, ultimately reducing community violence and fostering a stronger, safer city.
