Centrum was founded in 1974 to make a former military fort in Port Townsend, Washington a home for life-long learning. For over 50 years, Centrum has used the 427-acre state park with historic buildings, forest trails, and beaches to make cultural arts events and arts education accessible to anyone. Centrum’s year-round programming includes: * Immersive workshops that highlight specific heritage and folk music including fiddle traditions, acoustic blues, jazz, Brazilian choro, chamber music, ukulele, and voice; * A creative writing program offering workshops and a week-long summer writing conference; * Residential workshops for youth that immerse students in the arts through music, theater, creative writing, STEAM, and visual mediums; * Artist residencies to ensure there is a constant stream of visual art being created and shared on campus. Centrum shares all these programs with our local community through more than 50 concerts, dances, exhibits, lectures, performances, and readings per year by our award-winning faculty. In total, our activities serve more than 17,000 people annually from ages 4-98 coming from all fifty states.
