SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) is a nonprofit organization serving and advancing Hispanics in STEM. With more than 13,000 student and professional members, SHPE’s mission is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to drive social and economic growth by excelling in STEM. To accomplish this, SHPE provides a variety of programming, services, resources, and events, including hosting the largest Hispanic STEM convention in the nation.

The United Community Center is a comprehensive social service agency serving the families of Milwaukee's south side. Programs range from education to elder programs, meeting the needs of six weeks olds to 93 year olds and beyond! Facts at a Glance: •Nearly 18,000 people served annually throughout the programs •Programs include: Early Education, Elementary Education, Elderly, First-Time Homebuyer Program, Health Research, Substance Abuse Treatment •1600+ students enrolled in UCC Schools •More than 20,000 visitors including clients, community members, Latino Arts customers, and other business and community leaders who collaborate, partner with, and support our mission Who do we serve? •30% are under the age of 18 •More than 40% at or below the poverty level with household incomes of less than $25,000 per year •Ethnicity: 96% Hispanic, 2% Caucasian, 1% African-American and 1% Native American •Within Hispanic Ethnicity: 30% Mexican, 54% Puerto Rican, 16% Other Hispanic, and 20% did not disclose •65% reside in either the 53204 or 53215 postal codes •90% reside in the City of Milwaukee •99% reside in Milwaukee County Who helps us with our mission? •More than 500 full and part-time staff who manage, guide, and lead our programs and services •More than 850 volunteers each year, from students to corporations who come for one day or on a weekly basis to help serve our clients •Nearly 300 individual donors and 57 corporations and foundations who provide needed financial support •Hundreds of partners and collaborators who join with us to create and deliver creative and quality programs Our Schools: UCC Schools promote and ensure a positive, collaborative and constructive environment focused on student outcomes achieved by high-quality classroom instruction and rigorous academics. •Bruce-Guadalupe Community School (K-8) •UCC Acosta Middle School (6-8th) •1600+ students enrolled
