The Centre for Learning, Research & Innovation (CLRI) is a joint venture between The Geelong College, Deakin University and The Geelong College Foundation. It serves students, parents, teachers and the broader community. CLRI is supported by an Advisory Committee that guides the planning of programs and identifies opportunities for research and development. The Centre is a hub of ideas that might be housed in the Creative Arts department, the school up the road, or a local business – it’s a core group of thinking, investigating people. We engage in research projects and create professional development opportunities, by recognising learning as an active, dynamic behaviour that emerges from interactions between the human brain and the social world. We are committed to understanding the science of learning and the art of teaching. Learning It’s at the centre of everything we do. There are no boundaries about what we can learn or who we work with. Together we assemble and disassemble knowledge, wrestle with ambiguity and complexity and ensure that the best of existing practice is combined with new innovations in teaching and learning. Research The Centre is actively involved in research with Deakin University and through individual learning projects undertaken by The Geelong College staff. Further, we engage in dialogue with local, national and international experts who have a deep knowledge of educational research. We identify what practices we want to change and the best way to empower people to take greater responsibility for their own learning. Innovation Our focus on innovation stems from creating a culture where people truly believe that they can learn anything they desire. We understand that in order to innovate we need to take risks and that making mistakes comes with the territory. We challenge the status quo and believe in deep collaboration which encourages us to innovate in a way that has a positive impact on learning.
