At The GW Medical Faculty Associates, we strive to do nothing less than to transform the art of healing. We have more than 700 providers that care for patients through over 50 medical specialties. They write the books your physician studies today and teach the doctors who will treat your sons and daughters tomorrow.
We are committed to comprehensive, thorough and accessible patient care. We see patients on our main campus at GW University, Sibley Memorial, Suburban and INOVA Fairfax Hospitals, too. We are a sought-after resource for patients who come here from all over the world, and for doctors as far away as Antarctica who seek our counsel through telemedicine.
We are national leaders in implementation of the Electronic Healthcare Record, which allows your doctors to work from a single, secure electronic patient file. That contains costs and makes treatment plans more precise, and expedites the pace of clinical research.
We are a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to enrich lives through the delivery of exceptional care that exceeds the expectations of our patients and their families, transform healthcare education and advance discovery.
CBR is the world's largest cord blood and cord tissue bank. Cord Blood is rich in Stem Cells that are unique to the newborn and family. Cryopreservation of the cells has been called a type of 'biological insurance' because the stem cells are then available for use in medical treatments involving cancers and blood and immune disorders. The stem cells are an exact match for the newborn and have a higher likelihood of use in siblings. Diseases treated include leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia and more than 75 other conditions amenable to stem cell transplant. New directions with cord blood stem cells include regenerative medicine for cerebral palsy and hearing loss.
Our Mission: To provide the highest-quality stem cell preservation service and care to our patients, families, and their physicians. We at ViaCord believe these words are much more than just a promise. They are the commitment we live by.
Our Origins: ViaCord was established in 1993 to give expectant parents an opportunity to bank their children's cord blood with comfort and security. Prior to launching our Cord Blood Banking Service, ViaCord conducted extensive research and validation studies to set high standards regarding the collection, processing, and storage of cord blood.
ViaCord worked closely with the following institutions during our development:
* Obstetrics Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA
* The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH
* The University of Cincinnati's Hoxworth Blood Center, OH
ViaCord's headquarters are located in Cambridge, Massachusetts; a recognized global hub of biotechnology. All cord blood collections are processed and stored at our cord blood storage facility outside of Cincinnati.
