CEISAM Information

The CEISAM Institute ("Interdisciplinary Chemistry: Synthesis, Analysis, Modelling") encompasses all the research activities carried out in the area of molecular chemistry in Nantes and its surroundings. The CEISAM Institute is located on the Faculty of Science campus of the University of Nantes. The name of the laboratory reflects its positioning and its organisation into five research teams, enabling it to cover a wide range of activities. Their complementarity is illustrated through scientific coordination and the structuring of joint projects. These projects are implemented with the following thematic focus areas: the synthesis of organic molecules and hybrid materials, methodological developments in analytical chemistry, and molecular modelling deployed across three strategic interfaces: ‘Chemistry/Health’, ‘Chemistry/Molecular Photonics’ and ‘Chemistry/Environment’, which ensure cross-disciplinary cohesion. The originality and quality of developments in molecular chemistry have enabled our unit, on the one hand, to lead or participate in numerous national, European and international projects and, on the other hand, to establish partnerships with many socio-economic actors, including small and medium-sized enterprises and large international groups. Scientific output averages 120 publications per year. A dozen PhD theses are defended each year. The work carried out has resulted in the filing of some 30 patents, software programmes and databases. International cooperation is a constant feature of CEISAM's activities, which maintains ongoing relations with universities on five continents. The integration of high-level platforms and technical facilities provides the entire unit with essential support for the smooth running of research activities. This research could not be fully developed without master's, doctoral and post-doctoral students. CEISAM is heavily involved in training through and for research.
