Jimmy Barnwood is a "perfect storm" of all my passions. What started out as a hobby, building things, quickly developed into business that today employs 4 people and ships product all across the US. I got started in the business after my Dad learned that I was looking for some old barn wood to finish up a remodel in my home. He quickly picked up the phone and dialed up one of our cousins that lived nearby. My Dad knew they had a barn blow down over the winter so he wanted to see what "Jack" was going to do with it. Jack responded that his plan was to "..light the son-of-a-b^&@h on fire as soon as he got a foggy day..", my Dad said don't do that, we want to get some wood. "How much do you want?", Jack asked. My Dad told him (without consulting me...) that we would take the whole thing! I had no idea what I was getting into but I spent the next summer taking the barn apart. As I removed beam after beam and board after board, I realized just how much wood was used to make up these amazing structures. Utilizing my internet marketing background, I researched the market and began learning about reclaimed barnwood. I quickly realized that there was indeed a market for reclaimed wood. I didn't see the value in just selling the wood as is, I saw value in turning the wood into re-purposed products like flooring, barn siding accent walls and all different types of tables and furniture. At the end of the summer in 2012 I began running Craigslist ads and that was the beginning of what would become my life's purpose. I finally had found it after 25+ plus years of trying. I felt like I was home. Almost 5 years later, the business has evolved into a growing, and thriving business. We have moved from a tiny 2,000 sq ft shop to a 15,000 sq ft shop located in Clare, MI in the heart of barn country. Today we dismantle 10-12 barns per year and turn that wood into products that create amazing transformations of spaces in both homes and businesses.
