We're not your average small publisher... Don Douglass (co-owner) likes to whistle. He's an excellent whistler. He could whistle rings around the Andy Griffith Show whistler. We like listening to him. It means he's happy, especially now that Summer has arrived and the sun is beaming gold in the sky. We all just wish he'd whistle something besides "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Even when Don is not whistling, life at Cave Art Press is never dull. This is because our publishing company, though small, has a real office, a staff that comes to work, and an inventory on the premises. Nowadays, most small presses are an online website with a bank of emails. Most of their work is subcontracted, and their employees rarely meet one another. But we have desks and file cabinets, computers and printers, an impressive stock of office supplies, a mini-kitchen stocked with coffee, tea, chocolate, and cookies, and a refrigerator with a couple of over-ripe pears and a few emergency bottles of Prosecco. We write, edit, design book covers, format manuscripts, and work on marketing and promotional strategies. We have book release parties. We meet for happy hour and we celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and book releases. Sometimes we go on a taco run. We have a super efficient bookkeeper who comes in every Monday and (playfully) fusses at us; and a sharp, cute techy guy who resists asking what we've been smoking (not that we have) when we call about our computer problems.
