The company was founded in 2001 by Joshua M. LaFond. As the eldest of thirteen siblings, Joshua naturally grew up as an organizer, planner, strategist: small business was an easy transition for him after graduating from college. Besides forming and incorporating the business in the field of Residential Contracting, Joshua has also served in each of the following capacities in the greater Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia areas: quality assurance and technician for USINSPECT, a home inspection company; Director of Youth Ministries and Coordinator of Religious Education for a parish community of 3,000 families; Foreman and Lead Carpenter for Grimberg Mechanical Inc., a commercial/ industrial mechanical company; and Superintendent for SugarOak Corporation, a custom home builder. After making the move to Minnesota in July of 2005, the company was re-named Son of a Carpenter, Inc. instead of Son of a Carpenter Home Improvements, LLC, since the company now has expanded from a custom carpentry and improvement firm to a complete general contracting corporation.
