Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) was founded in 2001 when Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities in Ottawa united to address homelessness and the lack of affordable housing. Over time, more faith groups joined, and MHI became a federally registered charitable organization. Today, with over 70 faith-based members, MHI is dedicated to creating inclusive, affordable housing communities. Notable projects include The Haven (completed in 2017), which provides accessible, family-friendly housing, and Veterans’ House: The Andy Carswell Building (opened in 2021), Ottawa’s first supportive housing project for homeless veterans. In 2023, ownership of The Andy Carswell Building was transferred to the newly developed sister charity of MHI, Veterans’ House Canada, which aims to expand similar initiatives nationwide. That same year, MHI sold its first purchased property, Kent House, using the proceeds to fund future affordable housing projects. In fall 2024, GHC officially amalgamated with MHI, expanding MHI’s housing portfolio and increasing its reach to over 1,000 tenants across nine housing communities. This amalgamation strengthened efforts to provide long-term, affordable housing solutions in Ottawa. MHI continues to grow with its tenth development, Odenak, already under construction.

The Drayton Hall Preservation Trust is a privately funded nonprofit organization responsible for the operation and administration of Drayton Hall, A National Trust Historic Site. Drayton Hall’s main house is an icon of colonial American architecture and identity. Founded in 1738, it is the oldest preserved plantation house in America still open to the public and the nation’s earliest example of fully executed Palladian architecture. Through two wars, devastating earthquakes and hurricanes, and the impact of seven generations of family life, the main house has survived the centuries in near original condition and its grounds have been hailed as “the most significant, undisturbed historic landscape in America.” As you enter the site, you’ll see a Memorial Arch marking one of the oldest documented African American cemeteries in the nation, a sacred place for descendants of the enslaved. Daily guided house tours and programs, private tours, and educational programs bring to life the history of the site for visitors of all ages. Drayton Hall is a National Historic Landmark. The mission of the Drayton Hall Preservation Trust is to preserve, educate and inspire.
