CARD - Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters serves the emergency preparedness, disaster response, and continuity planning needs of nonprofits, faith agencies and other committed community stakeholders. Based on research from multiple fields, CARD uses a fear-free, empowerment-based curriculum, and we have socialized and normalized preparedness so that the focus is mission-centric, with non-disaster contexts for action. During declared emergencies, exercises and disasters, CARD serves in the Alameda County EOC (Emergency Operations Center) to help support the full inclusion of nonprofits and faith agencies in the emergency services activities of the county. CARD's Philosophy: Prepare to Prosper! We believe in building everyday brilliance as the source of disaster resilience. Basic classes include: SKIP (Safety Kept in Place) aka Divergent Thinking and Freeing Your Inner MacGyver; Incident Command System for Community Responders; Personal Readiness and Street Safety; Agency Emergency Plans, Business Continuity Planning for Service Providers; and more. We have classes and workshops designed to address specific communities, including Preparedness for LGBT People and Communities; Preparedness for Care-providers, Readiness for Religious Communities, and many more. Ana-Marie Jones, CARD's executive director, keynotes and facilitates sessions on: Optimism if the Face of Emergencies and Disasters, Marketing and Promoting Effective and Sustainable Readiness, Couch Potato Preparedness, Prepare for Health, and other topics on request. She also leads networking sessions designed to build stronger relationships and to increase social bonding and cohesion. CARD is looking for progressive partners willing to take on the challenge of transforming how preparedness and readiness is shared across the country. CARD is committed to transforming readiness and resilience into a sustainable, empowering, and life affirming pursuit for all communities.
