Carbon Hinge is the world's thinnest and only all-composite, zero-metal flex hinge. Made entirely from carbon fibre reinforced polymer and Kevlar aramid, there is no pin, no barrel, and no metal anywhere in the assembly. The Kevlar flex unit acts as the hinge mechanism. Developed and manufactured in Sydney, Australia, by Talon Technology, Carbon Hinge was created to solve a problem that no existing product could. Metal hinges corrode, add weight, create galvanic interfaces with composite panels, and introduce a point of mechanical failure. Carbon Hinge eliminates all of that. Available in seven profiles from 0.5mm to 5.5mm, the range covers everything from ultra-thin applications for UAV flight control surfaces and bay doors to high-load structural applications in industrial, marine, aerospace and defence markets. Load ratings from 130kg to 260kg static at 50mm width, verified to over one million flex cycles. Carbon Hinge can be bonded directly to composite surfaces with a structural adhesive, co-cured into a CFRP panel as part of the layup, or mechanically fastened as required. It requires no surface treatment, no lubrication and no maintenance. Distributed in the United States through Jefco Manufacturing and available through McMaster-Carr. European distribution through Pinet Industrie and CMP Engineering.
