Captive Data was established in 1990 as a Gold Coast based general software development firm and has grown into a diverse group of IT interests encompassing most areas of the Information Technology Industry. Drawing on broad experience in animation software, device driver development, display systems, point of sale software and general programming, we emerged in 1990 as a small, reliable development firm with a reputation for getting the job done, every time, no matter how complex the project at hand. During the early 90's we spawned a subsidiary hardware peripheral manufacturing company called Pelican Electronic Developments, which is now a well established business in its own right. Pelican specialises in teletext and packet data broadcast systems and every day its products service tens of thousands of users at thousands of commercial sites. This subsidiary has experienced strong growth and as well as marketing its own custom solutions, it also supplies the base hardware for many third party data delivery systems. From the outset we have developed systems for other software houses, who then market the software as their own, in many cases generating revenue in the millions, for quite modest outlays on development. This is still a significant part of our business today, generating complete products from start to finish. The mid 90's saw us embrace internet technologies and focus our consulting and programming services toward ISP support and socket level internet application development. Steering clear of the over-serviced web page and cgi market we concentrated our 3GL experience on support software such as user management, net accounting, gateway interfaces and push data technologies.
