Founded in 1809, and established in 1914, Plain Local Schools is an innovative district rich in its diversity of population. The district offers a strong core curriculum with a wide range of electives, providing students with a firm educational foundation that is unsurpassed in the area. Plain Local Schools provides a curriculum that is challenging with comprehensive activities, the best qualified staff in the area, a strong emphasis on the fine arts, superior technological resources, and safe, secure facilities. Nearly 450 teachers serve 6,300 students at GlenOak High School, two middle schools, six elementary schools and two all-day kindergarten centers. The Plain Local School District believes in and supports the development of the whole child. Our "STAR" philosophy addresses the needs and development of every child in the areas of Character, Wellness, 21st Century Skills, Content Standards and The Arts. Research supports that our graduates will these skills to lead a well-balanced life and have successful work careers in the 21st century. The Plain Local School District was rated EXCELLENT on the Ohio Department of Education 2007-2008 report card. Oakwood Middle School earned the designation of EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION for earning an Excellent rating and making above expected growth for each of the last two years. GlenOak High School has been designated as EXCELLENT for the 7th consecutive year. Also earning an EXCELLENT designation was Taft Elementary School. We know however, that excellence is also measured in many other ways - in other academic pursuits, through athletics and through the arts.
