The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States. The purpose of the Conference is to promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind, especially through forms and programs of the apostolate fittingly adapted to the circumstances of time and place.
The Gospel of Christ and the teachings of his Church guide the work of the USCCB. The work of the Conference is rooted in three general mission goals and organized into three key areas of responsibility.
1. To act collaboratively and consistently on vital issues confronting the Church and society
2. To foster communion with the Church in other nations, within the Church universal, under the leadership of its supreme pastor, the Roman Pontiff
3. To offer appropriate assistance to each bishop in fulfilling his particular ministry in the local Church
Founded in 1964, the National Catholic Reporter is a nonprofit, lay-led and independent publication. NCR readers look to NCR to investigate and report on the whole story, without fear or favor, even when it involves telling the truth to and about power. Through its reporting and analysis, it covers the Catholic Church and wider religious, political and social forces shaping public policies and institutions. NCR is dedicated to the welfare of every human being regardless of religious belief, gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Throughout its history, it has been a voice for the disadvantaged, the marginalized, our hurting planet, and for all those forced to live in shadows. NCR tells their stories while holding authority accountable. In doing so, it has been and continues to be a beacon of hope around the world.
CatholicVote's mission is to inspire every Catholic in America to live out the truths of our faith in public life. Our vision is to be the most recognized and respected voice for Catholicism in American public life and in so doing bring about a renewal of the culture of our land.
We are a lay movement of committed Catholics who are passionate about living out the truths proclaimed by Christ and His Church in the modern world. We are joined by many individuals of other faith traditions because the common good we seek is universal to all men and women of goodwill.
