Camp SEA Lab provides all staff with extensive safety training prior to employment. Training includes risk assessment protocols, defensive driving, site evaluations, and camp activity training. Our hiring process through the University ensures high standards for employment are met, including screening and criminal background checks. All summer staff possess current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications and are at least 21 years of age. Campers are under constant supervision, and our ratio of staff to camper is at least 1:6. All Camp SEA Lab activities have undergone risk assessment and meet the health and safety standards of the American Camp Association®. What if my child needs medical attention while at camp? Camp SEA Lab staff is required to hold current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications and is trained to address minor medical issues. Camp SEA Lab conducts all program activities in close proximity to regional medical facilities. Staff are equipped with cell phones, emergency numbers, and copies of camper medical information at all times. In the event of severe injury or illness, Camp SEA Lab will notify parents to ensure that they can be part of the treatment process. Can special diets be accommodated? Our registrarion and health forms include space for parents to indicate a camper's dietary needs. As long as we know in advance of these needs, we can usually arrange to accommodate them. If a child's needs are very specific, we may ask parents to arrange for the child to bring appropriate non-perishable foods to camp to ensure that the necessary food is available. If your child has a serious health condition that may limit his/her ability to fully participate in camp activities, please contact our office prior to registration to discuss your child's needs at (831) 582-3681 oremail. A serious heath condition is defined by, but is not limited to, one that:Requires regular, periodic visits for treatment by a health care provider;Continues over an extended period of time, including recurring episodes of a single underlying condition (e.g. heart or back conditions, cancer, disease, migraine headaches, severe persistent asthma, etc.);May cause episodic rather than a continuing period of incapacity (e.g. diabetes, epilepsy, etc.).If your child qualifies, we will provide a Youth Health-Care Recommendation Form for your child's doctor to complete within 12 weeks of attending camp. At this time, we are unable to accommodate the special needs of children requiring the use of wheel chairs due to the physical nature of camp activities. Do I need to provide my child any special personal equipment for camp? Camp SEA Lab provides for all activity equipment as needed, including wetsuits, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, surf boards, etc. Please check your packing list provided in your confirmation packet for items needed for your specific camp. Camp SEA Lab is not responsible for loss or damage of any personal equipment brought to camp.
