Since its founding in 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit youth development organization, has provided free life-changing summer experiences in the outdoors to more than 1.8 million children from New York City’s underserved communities. The Painted Turtle is a nonprofit year-round camp for children with serious medical conditions and a member of the SeriousFun Children's Network, founded by Paul Newman. All families and campers attend camp programs free of charge. The Painted Turtle seeks to reach beyond illness, to inspire children with serious medical conditions to become their greater selves. Our mission is to provide a year-round life-changing environment for these children and their families-- one that allows children to participate in an authentic camp experience by supporting their medical needs and offers their families care, education, and respite.

Founded by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in 1985, The Rainbow Connection makes dreams come true for Michigan children with life threatening illnesses. From something as simple as a shopping spree or as unique as meeting the President of the United States or a glorious trip to Disney World, The Rainbow Connection has fulfilled the dreams of over 3400 Michigan children. The Rainbow Connection also provides emergency support services, information and referral, special holiday get-togethers and picnics and, perhaps most important of all, a listening ear to Michigan families battling a child’s life threatening illness.
