Byron Aged Care Information

Byron Aged Care(BAC) was established in 1972. It is a not-for-profit community owned facility, run by a voluntary Board, offering both low and high care places, as well as respite, to a maximum of 41 residents. In February 2015, Byron Aged Care merged with Alzheimer's Association Queensland. On opening the front door, you find yourself in a sunny courtyard and it immediately becomes apparent that this is a home, not an institution. Rooms open onto the courtyard, not into a corridor; staff wear name tags not uniforms. Resident's sit on verandas in front of their rooms reading, or watching the comings and goings of the day, others gather under the gazebo to discuss the latest news events; some laze in the sun, enjoying their memories. Others say hello as they pass by on their way "over town", an easy, short three minute walk. In the Activities Room a painting class is underway, whilst in the back corner of the room two friends enjoy a game of cards. In another corner a resident pieces together a jig saw puzzle. A walk to the beach is just 5 minutes away. The Byron Farmer's markets held every Thursday, are literally next door, as is the iconic Byron Market, held on the first Sunday of each month. Byron Bay Hospital is at our back door, a one minute ride in a wheelchair. Despite almost being situated in the middle of town, BAC is a quiet, peaceful green haven. BAC is truly "a home away from home", a place where the resident's enjoy fresh food cooked in our own kitchen and where possible residents are encouraged to continue to enjoy the interests they pursued whilst living in their own homes. Families and friends are also warmly encouraged to continue to be involved in the lives of their loved ones and visit at any time. Birthdays and other significant events are acknowledged and celebrated. We offer loving care in a homelike environment.
