Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.
We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.
Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.
Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!

Gold Standard, fast-paced RCVS Hospital and Emergency Clinic with first opinion practice rolled into one. Well-being orientated practice where having fun at work, getting better every day, caring for each other (and our families) and practicing the most current, evidence-based medicine are key to the culture of our 66 colleague team members. Excellent customer service, thorough, compassionate patient care and looking after our team members are at the heart of what we do.
We benefit from offering colleagues the dual experience of learning good, First Opinion consulting (both vet and specialist nursing clinics), following cases from beginning to end with clients, within a busy hospital environment with Certificate level veterinary support (both in the vet surgeon and vet nurse teams).
Our First Opinion boasts an ISFM Gold Standard cat clinic & cattery, high surgical standards (as you'd expect from University), extensive in-house laboratory and a dedicated IM3 Dental Suite with all the kit, led by our very own Dental RVN.
Our Hospital supports Referral, overnight hospitalisation and OOH support for 13 Vets4Pets practices (as well as many Animal Charities) in the area, resulting in busy OOH night shifts, a large and interesting case-load for both the day and night clinical teams.
With almost 60% of our pets Insured and/or on Healthcare Plans, we have a really engaged client-base who expect everything to be worked up thoroughly and extensively, be it a vomiting cat or itchy-eared dog. If you're into jabbing animals with steroids and antibiotics and 'see how it gets on', this isn't the practice for you!
Team communication, admin support and in-house training CPD are at the forefront of what we do, reflected in the fact that we have 66 colleagues currently in our practice supporting 11 vets. That ratio of both clinical to administrative/finance support is also reflected in our 2:1 qualified RVN to vet working ratio at any one shift.
