BIG is a Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Zurich, and Bhutan-based global architecture firm operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, interior design, landscape design, product design, and research & development. The office is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania. BIG’s architecture emerges out of a careful analysis of how contemporary life constantly evolves and changes, not least due to the influence from multicultural exchange, global economic flows, and communication technologies that all together require new ways of architectural and urban organization. We believe that in order to deal with today’s challenges, architecture can profitably move into a field that has been largely unexplored. A pragmatic utopian architecture that steers clear of the petrifying pragmatism of boring boxes and the naïve utopian ideas of digital formalism. Like a form of programmatic alchemy, we create architecture by mixing conventional ingredients such as living, leisure, working, parking, and shopping. By hitting the fertile overlap between pragmatic and utopia, we as architects once again find the freedom to change the surface of our planet to better fit contemporary life forms. OMA is an international practice operating within the traditional boundaries of architecture and urbanism. AMO, a research and design studio, applies architectural thinking to domains beyond. OMA is led by seven partners – Rem Koolhaas, Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu, Iyad Alsaka, Chris van Duijn, Jason Long, and Managing Partner – Architect David Gianotten – and maintains offices in Rotterdam, New York, Hong Kong and Australia. OMA-designed buildings currently under construction are the New Museum extension in New York City, the Museo Egizio in Turin, Dhaka Tower in Bangladesh, Palais de Justice in Lille, the Hangzhou Prism, the CMG Times Center in Shenzhen, and the Bajes Kwartier in Amsterdam. OMA’s completed projects include Simone Veil Bridge in Bordeaux (2024), LANTERN in Detroit (2024), Mangalem 21 in Tirana (2023), Aviva Studios – Factory International (2023), Apollolaan 171 (2023), the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (2023), Toranomon Hills Station Tower (2023), the Taipei Performing Arts Centre (2022), Audrey Irmas Pavilion in Los Angeles (2022), Norra Tornen in Stockholm (2020), Axel Springer Campus in Berlin (2020), and Potato Head Studios in Bali (2020). ABT levert als onafhankelijk ingenieursbureau toegevoegde waarde aan de gebouwde omgeving. Voor zowel gebouwen als infrastructuur, nieuwbouw als hergebruik. Wij zijn actief in binnen- en buitenland. Vanuit onze veelzijdige kennis van techniek én proces verkennen wij samen met onze opdrachtgevers de grenzen van het mogelijke. Dit doen wij binnen de gestelde kaders en met aandacht voor duurzame en nieuwe ontwikkelingen. ABT is een multidisciplinair bureau dat de aanwezige kennis van haar ruim 250 medewerkers snel, flexibel en doelgericht combineert. Voor projecten van elke schaal en in iedere fase van het bouwproces: van initiatief naar ontwerp tot uitvoering en exploitatie. Onze dienstverlening richt zich op de kennisgebieden constructies, civiele techniek, bouwkunde, bouwfysica en duurzaamheid. Ook ontwerp-, project- en bouwplaatsmanagement behoren tot onze specialisaties. Samenwerking tussen deze kennisgebieden is voor ons vanzelfsprekend. Zo komen we tot hoogwaardige, vernieuwende oplossingen, waarbij techniek gepaard gaat met kennis van het proces. Onze multidisciplinaire aanpak helpt ons om voorloper te zijn binnen speerpunten als ontwerpoptimalisatie, veiligheid, BIM en BEM, en ondergronds bouwen.
