Burdekin Productivity Services Information

Burdekin Productivity Services was established in February 2004 after the three existing Pest & Disease Control Boards merged. We continue to build and improve the services we provide to members to ensure that you receive the latest information and value for your membership levy. Burdekin Productivity Services is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee which is funded jointly by sugar cane growers and Wilmar Sugar. Growers can join through voluntary membership on a cents per tonne harvested basis, and Wilmar Sugar who matches the grower contribution. Our core business focuses on reducing the impacts to industry from pests and diseases. One of the most important parts of our job is to ensure all growers plant approved seedcane, which we distribute via our 6 distribution plots, as it reduces disease outbreaks and minimises the spread of diseases and pest incursions across the district. Bio-Security is also high on our agenda with both plant and machinery movement having the potential to have detrimental effects to the Burdekin sugar industry if a lapse occurs.
