Building for Humanity is not an ordinary not-for-profit housing company, rather one with a purpose of improving affordable home ownership and rental properties with our profits used to self-fund our own homeless charity – Homes for Humanity. It is modelled to develop the best, simple, most sustainable and low energy performance homes. On the one hand, Building for Humanity aims to ensure housing is accessible to those who can only dream of owning or renting an affordable home – ‘with us we make it a reality’. Over and above that, we want to transform poor housing by delivering on our promise to ensure our properties are designed with cutting-edge energy efficient and environmentally measures. Building for Humanity invests in green building, so to lower our long-term burden on our natural environment while providing for those who need help today. For that reason, Building for Humanity is sustainable for the future. We work closely with local councils to earmark potential development land in areas of need for affordable residential properties to buy or rent in perpetuity. We look to secure a potential site with the support or partnership of the Local Council which could either be gifted to us or be bought at an agreed reduced price with deferred payment settled at the end of the development. This is how we will sell a percentage of the homes below affordable market levels. At first, homes will only be available to buy or rent by the local people of that particular Council area, so their initial confidence in Building for Humanity is invested back into people they serve. A big part of our vision is that those who we endeavour to help directly benefit from the company profits, donating our surplus income to self-fund the initial support work and Step Forward programme that our charity Homes for Humanity will provide at each development site. Our success is reflected in our unwavering pledge to making a positive difference to our local communities.
