Robert H. Butcher, Jr. founded Butcher's Block & Building Materials on September 1, 1980. The company started out very small with only 2 employees, Bob Butcher being one of them. Since that time, the company has grown from a small lumber yard into one of the largest in the area. Bob Butcher worked hard running Butchers Block every day, until his untimely death in December of 2007. Butchers Block bought out an existing lumber company (Homestead Supplies) in June, 1988 and branched out into a full retail hardware store that carries a full line of paint, plumbing and electrical supplies and now employees 30+ people. In July of 2005 we also purchased a lumber and hardware store in Lucerne Valley. Through hard work and dedication we are proud of the company we are today. We are Big Bears only family owned and operated lumber yard and home center. Bob and Theela, as well as their kids Glenn and Amy, are all Big Bear High School graduates, making the Butcher family deeply rooted in this community. Their caring hearts for this town and the people is evident from the 100s of sponsorships and support for youth and community programs over these decades. We look forward to many more years of service to our community and great service for our customers! Glenn has been at Butcher's Block 23+ years and worked side by side with Bob learning the ropes of how to run this ever changing business. Glenn started out at the bottom, working in the yard, then drove a truck hauling material, and moved to the contractors desk about 15 years ago. He still loves the interaction with all of the contractors (most, long time friends) as well as homeowners. Glenn and Theela (Glenns Mom) have been running Butcher's Block together since Bobs untimely death in 2007. Theela still has an active role in the day to day operations of Butcher's Block and her years of knowledge are very helpful. What was once as a small, single-manned operation for basic meat delivery has now grown into an expansive community business now known as Farm Fresh Meats. We ran various small deliveries in the local area and we did it well! The products we were delivering became so well known by our customers that we decided it was time to branch out. With the goal in mind of delivering only the best products to our customers, we contacted many new Local Ontario Farmers who could help us create the best meat delivery experiences that we possibly could. It didn’t take long for us to see our customers’ instant satisfaction with our new meat products and this was definitely a warm welcome for us and the community. Today, Farm Fresh Meats continues the pursuit of excellence in meat delivery services. We strive to make sure that each custom order made by all of our long-standing clients (as well as new customers alike) puts a smile on their face!
