British Tunnelling Society Young Members Information

The BTS Young Members group is open to all young tunnelling professionals under the age of 35. There is no charge for most of the events that are organised. There are many ways one can get involved with the BTSYM, from attending evening meetings and networking with fellow society members at events throughout the year to seeking additional responsibility and applying for a role on the committee. The BTSYM Committee is divided into three parts – Management Group, General Committee and Associate Members. The General Committee comprises approximately 25 members and is organised into a number of smaller sub-groups (Professional Development, Media, and Schools & Universities) which are all overseen by the Management Group. • Professional Development - aims to help young tunnelling engineers to further develop their tunnelling knowledge by providing site visits, workshops and presentations • Schools & Universities - the group organises events for schools and universities to help introduce new and soon-to-be graduates to the world of tunnelling. • Media - promotes the tunnelling industry through various forms, allowing young members to keep up to date with the latest news, events and socials. Each sub-group consists of a Sub-Group Chair and 4 members. In addition to this, a group of associate members help to support the running of the society, including organising the BTSYM Conference and National Tunnelling Day.
