BrightGrid Energy Information

BrightGrid is an early-stage community clean energy initiative bringing solar and battery infrastructure, emergency resilience capacity, and clean energy education to disadvantaged communities across the United States, with a pilot launching in San Diego, California. 33% of the U.S. population live in communities identified by the federal government as disadvantaged, marked by environmental burdens, underinvestment, and limited access to economic opportunity. Those same communities are disproportionately left out of the clean energy transition. BrightGrid works to close that gap. 1. Clean energy access - we develop and operate solar PV and battery storage systems at community anchor sites -- health clinics, schools, rec centers, and community development organizations -- bringing clean energy infrastructure directly into the communities that have gone without it. 2. Resilience. Each installation is designed to serve as a community resilience hub, providing emergency backup power that keeps critical community institutions running when the grid goes down. 3. Education. Phase 2 pairs solar and battery installations at Title I schools with a Youth Energy Monitoring curriculum, giving the next generation hands-on exposure to clean energy systems and a foundation for careers in the growing clean energy sector. We are building something different. BrightGrid develops and owns solar and battery systems at community anchor sites. The host site receives clean energy access, 72-hour emergency backup power, and resilience hub designation at zero capital cost. We enroll each system in a Virtual Power Plant program, generating revenue at peak grid hours. Shared savings agreements create earned income that BrightGrid reinvests into the next installation.
