The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) brings Australia’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry together to champion growth.
We represent a $173 billion sector that employs nearly 300,000 people and reaches every Australian household, making it the country’s largest manufacturing industry.
AFGC is the collective voice of the FMCG industry. We connect businesses, unify perspectives and advocate for practical, credible outcomes that support a strong and competitive sector.

We work with government, retailers and partners to shape the environment our industry operates in, ensuring it can grow, invest and deliver for Australians.
Through leadership, advocacy and collaboration, we help drive sustainable growth, strengthen industry capability and ensure the sector remains a vital contributor to Australia’s economy and everyday life.
We are a bi-national government agency. Our main responsibility is to develop and administer the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, which contains legal requirements for foods, such as additives, food safety, labelling and GM foods. Interpretation and enforcement of the Code are the responsibility of State/Territory departments and food agencies within Australia and New Zealand.
