Brian Berger Information

Brian Berger designs and makes his furniture from a small rural property in the beautiful hinterlands of the Gold Coast, in a well equipped workshop using fine furniture making techniques with a combination of hand and machine tools. His work includes limited edition furniture, commissioned items including residential and commercial projects. Formally trained in Carpentry and Joinery, Brian's love for timber soon turned to woodturning, furniture restoration and over the last 17 years fine furniture construction and design. To design a fine piece of hand made furniture takes time and patience. From the initial consultation, sketching, to three dimensional cad drawings and in some cases one-tenth scale models. Hand selected timbers for grain direction showing best features. To watch a plank of timber sawn, to reveal another page in the trees growth. The use of traditional joinery methods, mortise and tenon joinery fitting together like a piece of a jigsaw. The feel of hand rubbed bench made furniture all adds to the joy of being allowed to use this medium for one's craft. Understanding how timber performs the maker becomes the "Artisan" of designing and making of hand crafted designer furniture, this life is then passed on to the owner.
