It was the year a 3% consumption tax was introduced. It was also the year marked by active democratic movements around the globe including the Tiananmen Square incident in our neighboring country of China and the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany. Our main construction site back in those days was the Tokyo International Trade Fairgrounds in Harumi. Later, we saw more convention centers such as Makuhari Messe, Pacifico Yokohama, and Tokyo Big Sight spring up. For the initial 10 years, Box-1 used to receive orders mainly from Fujiya and focused on two line of businesses: Japanese interior construction and exhibition booth system setup. Orders for Japanese interior construction decreased in the flow of time and we withdrew from the line of business completely in 2016. The system setup line of business led us to adopt Octanorm construction system from Germany at an early stage, thanks to one of the overseas organizers who have been our client since inauguration. From then on, we used the system to decorate exhibition booths and further to engage in broader foundation works. As the volume of system members grew year after year, our initial 300 sqm storehouse in Urayasu became too small to house all these members. A further rapid growth in our stockpile led us to purchase a land in Yachimata City, Chiba Prefecture 14 years later in 2003 to build our own corporate warehouse as wide as 4,900 sqm. 4 years later in 2007, we acquired our present corporate building in Koiwa, and then formed FORMZ Co., Ltd, our subsidiary responsible for carpentry, which started its activities as our carpentry arm. Box-1 grew from 11 founding members to 70 employees. The 30-year journey passed in the blink of an eye and the new generation will soon take over the responsibility of steering the company toward the 40th and the 50th anniversary.
