Since 1987, the Boston Institute for Developing Economies (BIDE) has provided highly qualified advisors and consultants to governments and other institutions in all regions of the world. These professionals, nearly all economists, offer an unusual set of characteristics: Focused on finding solutions to problems; Combining field experience, theory and methodology to find those solutions; Sensitive to national culture & institutions and the need to tailor policy thereto; Flexible in selecting tools appropriate to particular circumstances; Able to minimize the political backlash which often follows new policies; Competent in nontraditional methodology as well as standard analytical techniques; and BIDE has extensive experience in advising governments on their design and implementation of both macro and micro policies. The Institutes Principals have directed over 60 advisory and research projects in the last 15 years. These have involved virtually all major disciplinary sub-fields of economics and some of the related social sciences. All were designed to provide a stronger factual and analytical basis for policy formulation. It has fielded major long-term projects with teams of resident advisors in Asia , Latin America , and the Pacific and has organized dozens of economic advisory projects in these regions plus Eastern Europe , Africa and the Middle East. Based on these activities, our Training Division provides applied, hands-on workshops for government officials and others.
