O Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (Ibama) é uma autarquia federal dotada de personalidade jurídica de direito público, autonomia administrativa e financeira, vinculada ao Ministério do Meio Ambiente. Tem como principais atribuições exercer o poder de polícia ambiental; executar ações das políticas nacionais de meio ambiente, referentes às atribuições federais, relativas ao licenciamento ambiental, ao controle da qualidade ambiental, à autorização de uso dos recursos naturais e à fiscalização, monitoramento e controle ambiental; e executar as ações supletivas de competência da União de conformidade com a legislação ambiental vigente.
