Secondary Community School in North Cornwall
Our principal aim at Budehaven is to develop the finest quality learning community that we can; it is this overarching commitment to improving learning that lies at the heart of our work as a co-operative trust school and a community sports college.
Budehaven Community School has existed since 1973, having been formed from the former Bude Grammar School and Bude-Stratton Secondary Modern School. Since January 1991 the school has been on a single-site. A severe fire in 1999 destroyed much of the older buildings, but this was followed by a multi-million pound re-building programme, which was completed in 2002.
We provide Secondary Education to the age of 18 for pupils of all abilities, traditionally taking children at age 11 from seven primary schools: Bude, Jacobstow, Kilkhampton, Marhamchurch, Morwenstow, Stratton and Whitstone.
We are proud to provide an excellent comprehensive education for over 1620 students aged 11–18 [including 260 in the Sixth Form] from Newquay and the surrounding area. Tretherras is extremely popular with parents, and is regularly oversubscribed in all year groups, because of its warm welcoming ethos, extremely high standards and wide range of extra curricular activities. The staff work very effectively as a team and the atmosphere at Tretherras is characterised by positive relationships between everyone. Students enjoy being part of a successful school: they are all valued individually and know they are central to our work and that their all round achievements will be celebrated. Sustaining our excellent reputation does not come about by accident: creating and maintaining an ethos in which all students feel they belong and can achieve is absolutely everyoney’s priority. “At the heart of this outstanding school are the excellent care, guidance and support that students receive” [OFSTED 2010].
Tretherras is proud to offer an exceptionally broad curriculum, individually tailored to each student’s needs. The quality of the learning experience is paramount, and at KS3 great emphasis is placed in all subjects on acquiring the essential learning skills, named “THE TRETHERRAS WAY.”
