The Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory at The University of Western Ontario has assisted designers of some of the tallest buildings and longest bridges in the world since its inception in 1965. The Laboratory has pioneered various studies of wind effects on buildings and structures and has led the development of appropriate wind tunnel modelling techniques and analysis procedures in the Wind Engineering field. Wind climates, wind-induced structural loads, cladding pressures, pedestrian level winds, ventilation requirements as well as rain and snow effects are examined through sophisticated wind tunnel studies. Testing facilities include two large boundary layer wind tunnels with state of the art instrumentation and computational services. Evaluations of dampers, full scale monitoring and customized instrumentation development are additional services offered by the Laboratory to enable cost-effective solutions to aerodynamic issues.
