Blackpool Carers Centre Information

Blackpool Carers Centre is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. It is a network partner of Carers Trust. When the Trust’s Northern Office opened in 2000 the then, Network Development Manager contacted all local authorities in Lancashire to discuss the possibility of forming new partnerships. From this contact came the opportunity to work with Blackpool Council and Blackpool PCT both of whom were keen to form a partnership that would eventually see the development of a Carers Centre in Blackpool. With help from Radio Wave, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, launched this adoption at Blackpool Tower in April 2004. After much searching a premise was finally located and opened in 2005. Blackpool Carers’ Centre currently has over 2,100 adult carers on the database supported by several adult carers support workers. The Centre provides many courses, groups and clubs for carers in addition to the general information and support service. The Centre also runs a counselling service. The young carers’ service began to operate in 2006 and the workers provide a comprehensive service to over 270 local young carers. Recent funding from Community Foundations Lancashire will allow the Centre to implement ‘Hear by Right’ which is a tool to enable young carers to be fully involved in the running of the Centre. Carers are referred to the service via local statutory and voluntary agencies; carers are also able to self refer.
