BISLA Information

BISLA is a non-profit organization and the first liberal arts college in Central Europe. It opened its gates to the first class of students in September 2006. BISLA was founded on a decade of prior experience, being the natural heir to the Society for Higher Learning (founded in 1996) – an ‘invisible college’ that graduated hundreds of exceptionally talented students from various humanities fields. BISLA provides its students with a broad introduction to the field of humanities. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Science in political science and minors in philosophy, anthropology, arts and international relations. Liberal arts education fosters learning through critical thinking, reading and writing, and it places much importance on discussion among teachers and students. The class size is about 20 students, who are further divided into smaller discussion sections. Focus is on developing skills rather than on rote learning. As a result, BISLA graduates are highly successful in various settings, applying for graduate degree studies and positions on the job market. BISLA students are guided throughout their studies by individual academic advisors – tutors, who assist them with learning, managing their course load, deciding on their minors and thinking about the direction of their lives after BISLA.
