We are a British tea company based in London with roots in the trade dating back over 140 years to Darjeeling, where Captain Birchall Graham first planted tea. Today, our teas are served daily on every major UK highstreet and we are one of the world's largest exporters of tea from East Africa, shipping approximately 40 million kilos of black tea globally each year. Birchall is renowned for quality and our tea tasting expertise: every week our experts taste almost 4000 teas to identify the best for our blends. Usually less than 1% of these will be deemed good enough to go into our signature black teas! Since 2011, Birchall teas have won over 56 awards in total at The Guild of Fine Food's prestigious Great Taste Awards and our signature Great Rift Breakfast Blend has received honours 9 years in a row. In 2020, Birchall became the first tea company in the world to officially join the UN's Climate Neutral Now Initiative, which invites organisations to work towards global climate neutrality by addressing their own climate footprint. We have also become the first tea company in the world to achieve the Carbon Neutral International Standard, which we obtained by measuring and offsetting our greenhouse gas emissions, supporting verified volunteer reforestation projects around the world. This means that all of our products - including our award-winning Great Rift Breakfast Tea - are now completely Carbon Neutral.
