Billions are spent every year on biological products, regenerative practices, and carbon programs — yet evaluating whether any of it worked depends on lab measurements that come back weeks later, long after day-to-day management decisions are made. BioSensor Solutions makes the living biology of soil measurable in real time. There's an old farmer's test for whether soil is alive: bury a pair of cotton underwear, dig them up two months later, and see how much is left. The more the microbes have eaten, the healthier the soil. We turned that into an instrument — a printed, biodegradable sensor that microbes consume the same way, buried in a working field and read continuously. As they degrade it, its electrical resistance rises in proportion to their activity. The sensing technology was invented in Dr. Gregory Whiting's materials science lab at the University of Colorado Boulder. We spun the company out in 2023 through CU Boulder's Embark Deep Tech Startup Creator program, with an exclusive license to the patent (U.S. Patent 12,270,066). The other half of the instrument is the model. In January our team was selected for the first NSF ASCEND Engine hackathon, run with NVIDIA, where we rebuilt it so it doesn't care whether the weather it's reading has already happened. Feed it the past and it explains what the soil did. Point it at a forecast and it projects what the soil will do. Where we are today: peer-reviewed twice in 2026, field-tested for a season at Clemson's Edisto REC, and revenue-generating — the International Rice Research Institute is on its second paid pilot with us. This fall we deploy at the South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture. We're an NVIDIA Inception member and were recently accepted into the NSF ASCEND Engine's SHIELD soil health accelerator. The forecast isn't finished. That's the part we're building. Columbia, SC and Boulder, CO
