Bioparametrics Ltd is a spin off company from the University of Edinburgh which specialises in the modelling of Dairy Cow Nutrition in order that animals come closer to fulfilling their full genetic potential. The use of calibrated Near Infrared spectrophotometry models has permitted Bioparametrics to offer feed and forage analysis services with a rapid turnaround to farmers and nutritionists. This is of interest to dairy farming enterprises with a high turnover of imported feed materials which need to be performance matched to animals in different parts of the dairy farming cycle. Bioparametrics' unique understanding of rumen dynamics and their ability to model rumen pH flux is modelled by their Biopara-milk software package. The use of Biopara-Milk by Dairy nutritionists is known to have lead to significant improvements in milk yields in the order of 3 litres per cow per day . The gain is achieved through synchronization of carbohydrate and protein degradation in both quickly and slowly degrading pools in a model iterating 10x per hour. Maintaining a high ruminal pH 24/7 is key to achieving efficient fibre digestion. Bioparametrics can provide data taken from feeding trials validating the scientific approach. As part of a strategy to share and globalise this spectrum of novel understanding, Bioparametrics aim to establish a group of worldwide partners with whom and through whom the technology can find usable application down to the family and local farming scale.
