Biomids is a software solutions company that applies advanced biometric technologies to problems in the recognition, verification, and security of human identity. It was founded in 2012 in Cotuit, Massachusetts, by Frank Mann. Frank long appreciated that human biometrics provide the most valid form of human identification. Unlike a driver’s license, smart card, or even a birth certificate or passport, our biometrics cannot be lost, stolen, duplicated, or otherwise tampered with or misstated. With the increasing efficiency and decreasing cost of technology, Frank saw that this powerful form of identification could soon be applied in everyday life well beyond its previous uses in ultra-high security and very expensive installations. Frank and his team set out to apply this insight to a set of important problems, including the following: Sensitive personal information, especially credit cards, bank account numbers and pins, are increasingly being compromised, as reported in daily headlines. Protecting one’s sensitive data by frequently changing ever-more-complicated passwords is both ineffective and highly frustrating. Ever-more-complicated files of personal data are being developed within subunits of large organizations. For example, healthcare systems, hospitals, universities, and financial institutions lack a common human identifier across systems. The identifiers are incompatible and incapable of giving a complete, coherent picture of any given individual where critical data may need to be drawn quickly from widely disparate databases, as in the case of emergency medical treatment. The results of the work of the Biomids team, responding to these challenges and opportunities, are now evident in the products described on this website.
