Bio Foods (Pvt) Ltd. is a devoted organic and Fair Trade Company established in 1993 in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. Bio Foods is a processor & exporter of organic products such as green teas, black teas, spices, herbs & other post-harvest food items in its own processing units. Organic tea is manufactured at James Valley Organic Tea Factory at Doluwa. Organic black tea is processed at Avonlea Hill Organic Tea Factory at Diyathalawa in the world famous Uva High Grown tea region. Well equipped three processing units are established to process organic spices, herbs at Matale and Doluwa. Organically grown raw materials are purchased from organized small organic producer groups under strict internal control system of Bio Foods. We export organic teas, spices and herbs and other products in the forms of bulk and consumer packs under different certifications such as NOP, JAS, Bio Suisse and EU. Demeter logo is used for all biodynamic products. We use Jameslea and NimSa to promote our own brand and also packing is done under other private labels Bio Foods (Pvt) Ltd. and SOFA has become a sustainable model in Sri Lanka. This project shows clear impact of Fair Trade activities on socio economic development of small organic producers in the South.
