Bio-start Information

Bio-Start, is an accelerator designed to identify and build early-stage companies employing engineering biology to solve real problems. The goal of Bio-Start is to create high-impact start-ups built on a firm commercial foundation and strong business acumen. Bio-Start is not-for-profit organization, supported by SynbiCITE, the UK’s national centre for commercialisation of synthetic biology and the Rainbow Seed Fund an early-stage venture capital fund building and growing technology companies stemming from the UK’s research base. Bio-Start provides its corporate sponsors an opportunity to engage with a network of pioneering entrepreneurs and some of the most innovative young companies coming out of the synthetic biology revolution in the UK. Bio-Start is designed to help teams that are looking to commercialise the engineering of biology. The Prize is £250k package (£100k equity free cash prize, one-year free laboratory space, POC funding, consumables and professional services). This funding is non-dilutive, with no equity taken. All entrants that pass the initial stage receive substantial expert mentoring and exposure to VC and business networks with a grand final event providing PR and networking opportunities.
