Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa Information

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa provides youth facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in our community, we are accountable for each child in our program achieving: • Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships • Avoidance of risky behaviors • Educational success During the 2016-17 school year we will match 530 youth with a positive, one-to-one mentor. These youth participate in Community-Based Mentoring (meeting with their mentor for 4-10 hours a month), School-Based Mentoring (meeting 30-60 minutes a week during the school day), or School-Based Plus Mentoring (a combination of both Community- and School-Based Mentoring). Our work does make a difference! In the most recent school year, after one year of being matched one-to-one with a mentor, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa’s youth, or “Littles,” showed the following impact: • 90% of our Littles believe they can and will graduate high school • 75% of our Littles have improved their relationships at home or at school • 72% of our Littles improved their scholastic confidence • 65% of our Littles believe they can and will attend college
