Beyond Human Information

Beyond Human is an emerging student-led initiative that aims to redefine our interaction with history by shifting the focus to the non-human world. The initiative explores how history, culture, and society have been shaped not solely by human actions but also through interconnected relationships with non-human entities. The broader lens encompasses both living and non-living entities, emphasising that history is a complex interplay between humans and their environment. The team is dedicated to fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue that spans sociology, environmental studies, philosophy, and historical studies. The logo of Beyond Human depicts a Kalpavriksha, which has a metaphorical association with being the tree of life, which in the logo is placed inside the boundary of an eye. The Kalpavriksha symbolises infinite possibility and the self-sustaining nature of all kinds of life, human as well as non-human. The eye symbol in the logo acts as a gateway to new ideas. Highlighting the central vision behind 'Beyond the Human' is to understand human interaction with the 'non-human'. It also recognises how nature, animals, and other non-human entities, both living and non-living, have greatly influenced our shared history as not just mere agents but also as 'actors'. Together, the Kalpavriksha within the eye is a strong metaphor for an enlightened, holistic vision of history. The core belief behind Beyond Human is that history cannot be adequately understood without considering all the various entities living along with humankind in nature. Through our endeavour, we aim to invite students, scholars, and academicians to engage in critical thinking and collaboration, encouraging a deeper understanding of our place in the world as humans and as integral components of a broader, interconnected reality.
