You cannot modernize what nobody can describe. Before you migrate, rewrite, or point AI at forty years of COBOL, somebody has to know exactly what is in there. That is what we do, and it is all we do. Benchmark builds one complete, precise, standards-based model of a legacy estate: every program, batch job, transaction, file and database, the data between them, and the business rules buried inside them. COBOL, JCL and CICS are read together, as one system rather than three separate inventories. The model is structured on ISO/IEC 19506, the Knowledge Discovery Metamodel published by the Object Management Group. We did not invent it and we do not control it, so what you receive is a description of your own systems in a documented, published form. Your team can read it and your migration partner can consume it. No proprietary format, so no format lock-in. Every element carries a reference back to the line of source it came from, so anything the model tells you can be traced and audited. Why this matters now. Every AI coding tool depends on a language server to tell it what is actually true about the code. COBOL never got one. That absence is why AI-assisted mainframe work keeps producing output that looks right and fails late. We build what that missing layer would produce. Engagements: estate assessment, migration readiness, business rule recovery, data lineage, Datacom conversion, cloud porting. Work runs in our own hosted environment or, where source code cannot leave your building, on a server inside your environment over VPN. Clients in banking, insurance, financial services, healthcare, transportation and the public sector. Benchmark is also the maker of IRIS Business Architect, a business and enterprise architecture platform with its own home at biz-architect.com. The belief underneath both is the same: you cannot change a system safely until somebody can describe it precisely. IRIS describes the business. This describes the code the business runs on.
